IDLES recently shared their latest track, Model Village, taken from their upcoming 3rd album, Ultra Mono. The track sees the band criticise the dangerous small-town ‘fishbowl’ mindset, with its instrumentation being heavily inspired by IDLES’ love of hip-hop. Listen below.
Speaking about the track, front man Joe Talbot states:
I hated growing up in a city that was really a town that was really a fishbowl. I left as soon as I could, only to realize the fishbowl didn’t exist…just the fish, and they’re everywhere.
Accompanying Model Village, the band have shared its music video, directed by Michel Gondry (Daft Punk, The White Stripes, Radiohead) and Olivier Gondry. The animated music video was painstakingly pieced together over numerous weeks, with Michel cutting hand drawn shapes and characters out, and filming them before sending the clips to Olivier to bring them to life through CGI.
Model Village is the 4th single to be released from Ultra Mono, following Mr Motivator, A Hymn and Grounds. Ahead of the album’s release, IDLES are hosting a series of 3 livestreams from Abbey Road Studios, on August 29th and 30th. Tickets are available to purchase here, alongside album bundles.
