Yesterday saw IDLES return with their new single, Mr Motivator, a huge bout of positivity and also the first glimpse of the bands highly anticipated 3rd album, which is set to be released later this year.
Mr Motivator sees IDLES acknowledge the tendency for the sloganeering and social commentary that has become a signature thing for them. Throughout the track, lead singer Joe Talbot asks the listener “How do you like them clichés?”, IDLES use them in powerful ways, making them able to produce unique imagery which is brutally relevant.
Speaking about the track, Joe Talbot states
We want to start this journey with a means to not only encapsulate the album’s sentiment, but to encourage our audience to dance like no one is watching and plough through these dark times with a two tonne machete of a song and the most beautiful community of scumbags ever assembled. Let’s go. All is love.’
IDLES previous album, Joy As An Act Of Resistance debuted in the top 5 of the UK albums charts, leading to them playing legendary, unforgettable sets at Glastonbury, NPR’s Tiny Desk & Jools Holland and saw them play sellout tours across the world.
More information on album 3 will be announced soon.
