Manchester’s Westside Cowboy are making a significant splash, announcing their highly anticipated debut EP, ‘This Better Be Something Great,’ due out on August 8th. The EP will be released through Nice Swan Recordings / Heist or Hit, and fans can pre-order the vinyl now.
To kick things off, the quartet has also just shared their brand-new track, ‘Alright Alright Alright.’ Released today, June 17th, on all streaming platforms, the song follows its recent premiere on BBC 6 Music with Huw Stephens. An accompanying video for the track is also available.
‘Alright Alright Alright’ was produced by Lewis Whiting from the 2024 Mercury Prize-winning band English Teacher. It’s an explosive preview of the EP, described as a “barn dance of headrush guitars and blitzkrieg drums,” overflowing with “fuzz pedals and distortion” that highlight the band at their most ferocious.
Of the track, the band states,
“This song was the first original thing we ever played as a band, before we had any real ambition for the project to reach the ears of anyone outside of that room. It is a punk song about a cowboy, and if anyone can take away any more from it than that, consider us impressed.”
The timing couldn’t be better, as Westside Cowboy are set to play multiple prestigious slots at Glastonbury Festival next week (June 25th-29th). As winners of the Emerging Talent Competition, they’ll open the Woodsies stage on Sunday, June 29th, with three more performances scheduled across the weekend. After Glastonbury, the band have a packed schedule of live dates, including support tours with Black Country, New Road and Blondshell, both starting in September.
