Edinburgh duo No Windows have today released their poignant new single, “Tricky,” offering a further glimpse into their upcoming EP, The Great Traitor, set to drop in the coming days. This release builds upon the momentum generated by their critically acclaimed 2024 EP, Point Nemo, and a successful run of EU/UK tour dates, which included an appearance at The Great Escape’s ‘First Fifty’ and support slots on a full Slow Pulp tour. Alongside the new music, the band has also announced a fresh series of live performances for 2025.
“Tricky,” presents a delicate interplay between Morgan Morris’s subtly complex guitar arrangements and Verity Slangen’s lyrical exploration of love and infatuation. The track also features production contributions from Ali Chant, who adds percussion and slide guitar to the emotive soundscape. Of the track, Morgan states,
Tricky is as much of a love song as we’ll likely ever write. Verity and I are quite cynical people so sometimes love songs can seem benign to us. There’s definitely a time and a place though. Sometimes there’s this beautiful cohesion that occurs between us, it was a joy writing this song despite its deceivingly difficult guitar part that I loathe playing live, hence the song’s name.
The evocative musical partnership of multi-instrumentalist Morgan Morris and lyricist Verity Slangen has garnered significant support from radio and press, recognised for their distinctive blend of classic pop and folk sensibilities. Their talent was further acknowledged with the prestigious Sound of Young Scotland Award at the Scottish Album of the Year (SAY) Awards in 2023. Remarkably, in 2024, at the ages of just 18 and 19 respectively, Morris and Slangen signed with Fat Possum Records, having independently released only one EP, titled Fishboy. The rapid ascent of No Windows underscores the compelling nature of their sound and their potential within the contemporary music landscape.
