London-based experimental outfit Man/Woman/Chainsaw have shared their fierce new track, “Goddamn, Lizard Man!”, marking the third single from their highly anticipated debut album. Featuring member Billy Ward on lead vocals for the first time, the grimy, string-laden rock track lands before Cannonball, arriving August 7th via Fiction Records.
“Goddamn, Lizard Man!” injects a sleazy, high-energy rock ‘n’ roll swagger into the band’s signature avant-garde style, anchored by a memorable, sweeping string and keys refrain during its chorus. Lyrically, the song takes a sharp, satirical look at the toxic, manipulative social predators that people frequently encounter. According to Ward, the track explores the specific, unsettling realisation of being completely aware that someone is a bad actor, yet still finding yourself inexplicably drawn into their strange, magnetic orbit.
According to Billy, the track is
“a look at the kind of slimy, manipulative magnetism people can carry – you recognise that they’re the worst yet somehow you can still find yourself captivated. We’ve all met a few lizards in our time!”
The track forms a crucial piece of Cannonball, which the band tracked at the historic RAK Studios. To capture their complex, chaotic arrangements, Man/Woman/Chainsaw collaborated with engineering and production powerhouses Margo Broom and Seth Evans; the latter widely recognised for his recent work with avant-prog icon Geordie Greep. The release follows a steady wave of underground momentum generated by last month’s ambitious single “Nosedive” and the BBC 6 Music-playlisted favourite “Adam & Steve,” cementing the group’s position as one of Fiction Records’ most thrilling new signings.
