Blondshell (Sabrina Teitelbaum) is poised to release her highly anticipated sophomore album, ‘If You Asked For a Picture’, this Friday, May 2nd, via Partisan Records. Today marks the unveiling of the final pre-release track, “Event of a Fire,” offering a compelling glimpse into the album’s sonic and emotional landscape.
“Event of a Fire” showcases Blondshell at her most cinematic, building from a hushed, intimate guitar arpeggio into a slow-burning epic culminating in a powerful howl. The track, born from tour-induced burnout and inspired by a real 4 a.m. hotel fire evacuation near Boston, layers piercing vocal harmonies over its evolving instrumentation. The accompanying music video, directed by Émile Moutaud and starring French actress Ghjuvanna Benedetti, delves into the internal struggles of a diver, juxtaposing the mundane aspects of her daily life with the weight of her inner turmoil.
Of the track, Teitelbaum states,
It’s not really ‘what if I’m burnt out from touring,’ It’s like, ‘what if I’m burnt out from just existing?’
This latest single follows previously released tracks that have offered further insight into ‘If You Asked For A Picture’: the metaphorical “23’s A Baby,” the introspective “Two Times,” and the notably catchy “T&A,” which Blondshell recently performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. For this sophomore effort, Teitelbaum once again collaborated with producer Yves Rothman, aiming to create a collection as potent and emotionally resonant as her acclaimed 2023 debut. The album promises an urgency, ambition, and impactful potency that builds upon the foundation laid by her self-titled debut, which garnered significant praise for its specificity, self-examination, and understated humor, establishing Blondshell as a notable new artist.
To celebrate the release of ‘If You Asked For A Picture’, Blondshell will perform a sold-out intimate show this Friday, May 2nd, at the Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles, offering attendees exclusive freebies. Following the album’s release, Blondshell will embark on a worldwide headline tour commencing on May 28th. The tour includes a UK and European leg in September, featuring a sold-out London date at Electric Brixton with a second show now on sale. Additionally, she is slated to support Fontaines DC at London’s Finsbury Park on July 5th before embarking on her US headline run, which includes sold-out performances in Washington, D.C., and Brooklyn, NY.
