After more than three decades, alternative rock stalwarts SUGAR, Bob Mould, David Barbe, and Malcolm Travis, are back with new music. The band released their first new song together in over 30 years, “House of Dead Memories,” recorded at Tiny Telephone Oakland in June 2025 and available now via Granary Music/BMG.

The release coincides with SUGAR’s first live performances since January 1995, including shows at New York’s Webster Hall on May 2 and 3, 2026, and London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town on May 23 and 24. Fans will also see a Record Store Day Black Friday reissue of the band’s 1992 debut, Copper Blue – The Singles Collection, a limited-edition 4LP box set featuring classic singles, rare B-sides, and live recordings from their Chicago Cabaret Metro performance, now restored to vinyl for the first time.

Reflecting on the band’s early years, Mould said,

“SUGAR was a meteorite… No one could have predicted the results. We held onto the wheel and did our best to enjoy the wild ride.”

The band originally formed in late 1991, quickly achieving critical and commercial success with Copper Blue, and following it up with Beaster (1993) and File Under: Easy Listening (1994). Bassist David Barbe and drummer Malcolm Travis express excitement for fans old and new to experience the reunited trio, while Mould emphasises the significance of this long-awaited return.

“House of Dead Memories” marks both a celebration of SUGAR’s enduring legacy and a fresh chapter for one of alternative rock’s most influential power-trio outfits.
