Fresh from a string of intimate, sold-out acoustic shows and ahead of upcoming major festival performances, Nell Mescal today releases her new single, “Carried Away.”
This track is the first offering from recent recording sessions in Brooklyn, NY, providing an early peek into a new collection of work and an evolved, organic sound from Mescal. It leans into her folk influences, highlighting producer Philip Weinrobe’s (known for his work with Adrianne Lenker, Billie Marten, and Cass McCombs) distinctive production approach, which yields a raw, natural, and authentic result.
Of the track, Nell explains,
It’s a song about asking for reassurance from someone you’re in a tumultuous relationship with and being disappointed by their answer. Instead of saying they love you back, they say they just got carried away.
“Carried Away” marks Nell’s first full studio release since signing with Atlantic Records, following her debut EP, Can I Miss It For A Minute?. The single sees Nell focusing on a relationship that’s losing its way. Having recently played at Somerset House’s ‘Summer Session’ and TRNSMT Festival, Nell’s schedule remains busy with appearances at Newcastle’s Come Together Festival on June 4th, Reading & Leeds Festival, and Rock N Roll Circus in Sheffield. A larger UK tour is also being planned for late 2025.
