Manchester-formed, London-based quintet Truthpaste have officially announced their debut EP, I Don’t Know Either, slated for release on April 28th via Dirty Hit and Memorials of Distinction. The announcement follows the runaway success of their recent single, ‘Bus Song,’ which garnered widespread acclaim across the press and radio landscape. To coincide with the release, the band, composed of five members and their “trusty computer drum”, will embark on a headline UK tour this May, featuring a milestone date at London’s The Lexington.

The EP’s unveiling is accompanied by the new single ‘Friendship Is The Truth,’ a track that vocalist Esme describes as a long-gestating collaboration finally pieced together last summer. While the band’s earlier work leaned into acoustic folk and violin-led arrangements, I Don’t Know Either promises a “bold pivot” in style. Tracks like ‘Bus Song’ and ‘Never Gonna Give’ push the collective into a higher-energy territory defined by driving electric guitars and synths, more accurately reflecting the reputation they’ve built through relentless live shows in the capital.

Of the new single, Esme states,

Euan and Claire played it to us once, then we got distracted for a couple years, but I would find myself singing it and trying to figure out what it was… It felt like the right time for it to form as we have all become very good friends over the last couple of years and it is indeed the friendship song.

By sharing songwriting and instrumental duties, Truthpaste has crafted a project that jumps between genres and soundscapes, from communal group vocals in ‘Swill To The Swine’ to jagged electronic-pop. As they join a roster of label mates like Naima Bock and Grove, I Don’t Know Either serves as a definitive statement of intent for a band that refuses to be pinned down to a single lane.
