The Amazons have just announced their new album How Will I Know If Heaven Will Find Me? for release on September 2nd 2022 on Fiction Records. The band have also shared their brand new single Bloodrush which was premiered by Jack Saunders on BBC Radio 1 last night. Listen below.

Speaking about the new single, frontman Matt Thomson commmented:

The verses are all about communicating with my girlfriend – I’d had enough of the monotony of waiting to see her. We finally met up in Mexico, quarantined for two weeks together, then spent two wonderful months together in LA. I came home and went straight to Jamie Hartmann’s place where we captured the rush of what I’d just been through. It’s about whatever it is you never want to live without and the joy of being given it back.

The new album follows on from 2019’s Future Dust and sees the Reading quartet come out of lockdown stronger and bolder than ever. Produced by Jim Abbiss (Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys, Adele), Will I Know If Heaven Will Find Me? was already half written when the band returned from their US tour in early 2020. Faced with the lockdown, singer Matt only saw his L.A. based girlfriend online for 6 months and began writing songs for her.

“The gap between us was no longer being bridged by WhatsApps and Facetimes. sent letters but that didn’t do it either. We felt further apart than ever. Writing songs about what we’d do when we were together again became my way of taking control of the situation. It allowed me to share something truly intimate. Writing songs is how I process life. It’s the best skill I have and being able to use it to fix a problem gave me purpose again.

At the end of 2020, Matt handed the songs to his bandmates. Written on acoustic guitar in his Brighton home, the tracks soon became full fletched The Amazons songs.

I said to the boys, enough with the darkness. As cheesy as it sounds, I wanted to make music that was a force for good, after everything we’ve all been through. It’s easily our most joyous album – sonically we set out to celebrate the return of real life and the communal experience of being back at shows.

That said, the band will support Royal Blood on their UK arena tour this month before playing several festivals this summer and finally heading on a massive UK tour in October, including a stop at London’s Roundhouse. Tickets here.

How Will I Know If Heaven Will Find Me? is available to pre-order on limited edition vinyl*.
