Thank has just dropped the final teaser for their sophomore album, I Have A Physical Body That Can Be Harmed, set for release on November 8th through Big Scary Monsters. Their latest satirical single, ‘Woke Frasier,’ is available today. As expected from Thank, ‘Woke Frasier’ offers a biting, humorous critique of society. The track lampoons the all-too-common characters who swiftly brand anything they oppose as ‘woke.’

Side-splitting, satirical lyrics like, ‘Bad news, your credit card details are now woke / and you should send them to me for safe disposal,‘ have already sparked mixed reactions during the track’s testing, as vocalist Freddy Vinehill-Cliffe explains:

Woke Frasier is a satire of a right-wing grifter podcast host. When we played this in Bedford, someone got angry with me because they thought it was about Joe Rogan. It’s not about Joe Rogan but screw Joe Rogan anyway. Woke Simpsons was a close second for the song’s title, and it features our friend Robin Smith from Lo Egin on saxophone.

Thank, along with the release of ‘Woke Frasier,’ has reunited with former collaborator George Chadwick for the song’s absurd music video. The band stated about the video: ‘Consider this a sequel to the ‘Torture Cube’ video, also by George Chadwick. We asked him to create something centered around right-wing podcast grifters, packed with as many ridiculous references to The Simpsons and Frasier as he could fit in. The entire story must take place within a broken desktop computer. We believe George has exceeded our expectations. Only time will tell if Rodney Fipplecash will make further appearances in the Thank cinematic universe.’

Thank will also be performing live at venues across the UK and Europe, including headline shows in London and mainland Europe, as well as supporting punk legends Cherubs and Future Of The Left.

The new track follows on from recent single, ‘Writing Out A List Of All The Names Of God,’ coinciding with the announcement of their signing to the renowned record label, Big Scary Monsters.

The song captures the essence of the band’s talents, featuring lightning-fast, jungle-influenced drumming, dissonant guitar melodies, and anguished lyrics against a backdrop of intense synth noise. The band describe the track as a ‘diss track’, yet it exudes a palpable sense of unease and urgency. The lyrics are then inspired by a profound yearning to hold cherished memories as we age and face feelings of desperation and hopelessness.

Speaking on the track, vocalist and guitarist, Freddy Vinehill-Cliffe says:

I think the recorded version might actually be the first time we successfully played the whole thing through.

He continues:

It’s a diss track, in response to another diss track – noise rock as a genre needs more diss tracks, I feel (see The Jesus Lizard – Mouth Breather). It’s also loosely based on something I saw pinned up in my grandpa’s study one of the final times I visited before he moved to a nursing home, he had handwritten a list of different names used to refer to God, I guess because he had become so forgetful and this was something he specifically didn’t want to forget.

Thank has sold out many headline dates across the UK and will be performing at this year’s ArcTanGent festival at the end of August. They have plans for live dates and new music in 2024, signaling a strong commitment from the band.
