Have your say on the future of UK live music! Music Fans’ Voice has launched a 15-minute survey, giving gig-goers across the country the opportunity to influence key decisions affecting the industry. The survey, accessible online at musicfansvoice.uk, focuses on crucial issues like dynamic ticket pricing, a topic recently highlighted by the Oasis reunion and its impact on fans. Concerns about ticket touting, which reportedly costs fans an extra £145 million annually, are also addressed, with the survey specifically asking about personal experiences with ticket purchasing. Recall that last year, the Oasis reunion tour organizers took a stand against secondary ticketing by cancelling over 50,000 tickets sold through these platforms.
This groundbreaking survey is a collaborative effort, commissioned by several major regional authorities including the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, the Mayor of London, Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, West Midlands Combined Authority, Tees Valley Combined Authority, Cardiff City Council, Belfast City Council, and Glasgow City of Music. The goal is to empower fans by giving them a “data-driven seat at the table” and ensuring their voices are heard.
This initiative follows a recommendation from the CMS select committee for a fan-led review of live and electronic music, similar to the fan-led review that took place in football. The insights gathered from the survey will directly inform decision-making at both governmental and industry levels. Ultimately, the aim is to support the vibrant live music scene, enhance the audience experience, and protect the vital venues that host these performances.
