With under six weeks to go until Rock N Roll Circus returns to Sheffield’s Don Valley Bowl from Thursday 27 to Sunday 30 August, festival organisers have shared fresh details for what promises to be their largest city edition to date. The award-winning four-day event will transform the heart of South Yorkshire into a hybrid spectacle of live music and contemporary circus art, uniting 40 live acts and 40 circus performers across the Bank Holiday Weekend. An expanded site layout will introduce an upgraded VIP offering, a new GA+ area, and a fully clash-free timetable, all anchored around the festival’s iconic Big Top tent that delivers arena-scale energy with the intimacy of a theatre production.
The four-day musical programme boasts a star-studded lineup centred on landmark album plays and outdoor headline sets. Opening Thursday, The Kooks will perform Inside In / Inside Out in full for its 20th anniversary alongside Sheffield icons Milburn, playing Well, Well, Well in full, and Miles Kane. Friday sees The Streets perform A Grand Don’t Come For Free in full, while Saturday brings Wunderhorse for their only outdoor headline show of the summer alongside Baxter Dury, English Teacher, and Fat Dog. The main stage action wraps on Sunday with a greatest-hits headline set from Richard Ashcroft, supported by The Fratellis, Cast, and Embrace.
Alongside established headliners, the festival remains deeply committed to backing the next generation of British guitar music. The BBC Introducing Stage will highlight emerging local and national acts like The Molotovs, Gurriers, Basht., The Clause, and Heidi Curtis. Spotlighting notable musical lineages, the bill also features Cruz Beckham and The Breakers in one of their biggest festival appearances yet, alongside Spanish Horses, featuring Albert Cocker, son of Pulp’s Jarvis Cocker, and Gene Gallagher’s band, Villanelle.
Beyond the mainstage performances, the site will stay constantly active with aerialists, acrobats, fire performers, and a life-sized mechanical elephant roaming the grounds. High-wire artist Ellis Grover, currently touring with Take That, will return alongside Sheffield unicyclists, complementing an extensive independent street food village featuring local legends like Yorkshire Burrito, Unit Burger, and God Save The Toasties.
