Dublin trio Really Good Time are back with their raucous new single “Shit One,” a blistering snapshot of post-punk disillusionment wrapped in danceable distortion. Known for their riotous live shows and knack for sharp, hook-heavy anthems, the band has quickly become one of Ireland’s most exciting acts. With recent support slots alongside Franz Ferdinand, The Murder Capital, and Gurriers, as well as appearances at SXSW and a spot among The Great Escape’s coveted “First Fifty,” they’ve cemented themselves as a group on the rise.
Following the departure of founding member The Dúke after SXSW, the band reemerged as a lean, ferocious power trio, and “Shit One” captures that raw reinvention. Built on angular riffs and snarling energy, the track turns existential dread into a full-bodied groove that’s equal parts frustration and release.
Frontman Wastefellow explained:
“Shit One is about a culture that revels in the spectacle of doom; it’s about stoking anxiety, selling nostalgia, and all the nihilism that brings. Things will just get better. Things should just get better. Why hasn’t anything gotten better?”
“The song is written from that spiral, from watching the world burn outside your window while trying to soldier on, shoulder to the wheel of whatever can distract you for long enough.”
The single arrives with a surreal video directed by Eilís Doherty (CMAT’s “Eurocountry”) and Saoirse Johnston, depicting the band celebrating at their own apocalyptic party; cigarettes, chaos, and a Conor McGregor cake are included. It’s a fittingly unhinged visual for a track that laughs in the face of despair.
