Stockton-on-Tees’ premier emerging music festival, The Gathering Sounds, has unveiled its first wave of artists for the 2026 edition, marking the event’s most ambitious lineup to date. Returning on Saturday, September 26th, the multi-venue metropolitan takeover will feature headlining performances from Birmingham indie champions overpass, Belfast punk-rock breakout group Basht., and Manchester shoegaze artist TTSSFU, firmly establishing Teesside as a vital destination for the UK’s best grassroots talent.
The initial announcement solidifies the festival’s status as a critical tastemaker event, offering music fans an intimate glimpse of acts on the cusp of national stardom. Topping the bill are overpass, who arrive riding a wave of momentum ahead of their highly anticipated debut album, Elsewhere, Always. Joining them in the multi-venue town centre takeover are a diverse array of buzzy alternative projects, including the chaotic dance-punk rhythms of London duo Good Health Good Wealth, the electronic post-punk stylings of Shelf Lives, and Manchester hook-makers M60. The performances will be spread across iconic local spaces, including KU, ARC, and The Georgian Theatre, transforming the town into a full-day hub of live music.
In keeping with its core mission, The Gathering Sounds 2026 continues to place a heavy emphasis on regional North East brilliance alongside nationally hyped acts. Newcastle’s sharp indie-pop songwriter Charlie Floyd, Sunderland’s theatrical art-pop outfit Swindled—fresh off a milestone slot at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend—and Stockton’s own soulful indie-folk artist Daisy Brown are all confirmed for the initial lineup. Partnering with powerhouse grassroots promoters like This Feeling, the event serves as a crucial cultural pipeline for an area that is frequently bypassed by major mainstream touring packages.
With dozens of acts, stage partners, and special guests still to be revealed in the coming months, organisers are confident that the 2026 iteration will set a benchmark for grassroots gatherings outside major metropolitan hubs. Tickets for the September dayer are on sale now, promising a stacked, cross-genre itinerary that honours the underground scene’s current momentum. For a region often left hungry for contemporary live tours, the upcoming multi-venue showcase brings the absolute cutting edge of British and Irish guitar music directly to Teesside’s doorstep.
