Building on the critical success of their 2024 EP ‘Glórach,’ West-Irish noise-punk band Nerves have returned with their most sonically abrasive and emotionally raw offering yet: “Dirty Fingers.” This new single, accompanied by a visceral video, marks another collaboration for the band with producer Daniel Fox of Gilla Band.
“Dirty Fingers” sees Nerves aggressively explore their industrial leanings, achieving a precarious equilibrium between sheer sonic volatility and razor-sharp precision. The track’s blistering rhythms and serrated guitar work provide a jarring foundation for stark, exposed vocals, creating a palpable sense of imminent sonic collapse – a potent sound the band has honed with increasing control and intent.
Of the track, the band’s frontman, Kyle Thornton, states,
With ‘Dirty Fingers’ we wanted to come out of the gates with something that was fast, intense and sonically overwhelming. We feel that our first EP was the sound of the band finally hitting upon a sound and style that we could move forward with, and this next batch of music coming this year is us doubling down on every aspect of our sound. ‘Dirty Fingers’ is the abrasive, danceable and industrial side of this band taken to its extreme, with the added vulnerability of starting a tune with just vocals, something which freaked me out enough at the time that I knew it was probably a good idea.
Having cemented their reputation as a formidable live act with blistering sets at key festivals like Electric Picnic and Other Voices, alongside support slots for heavyweights such as The Jesus Lizard and Maruja, Nerves are channelling that raw energy into their new music. With a promise of more new music throughout 2025 and further live dates on the horizon, “Dirty Fingers” serves as a potent declaration: Nerves are poised to ignite even brighter and delve into darker sonic territories than ever before.
