Today, London’s Modern Woman have returned with their latest single, Achtung!, the first since their 2021, debut EP, Dogs Fighting In My Dream, and previous single, Ford, via End of the Road Records, the label arm of the much loved British festival.

Produced and mixed by Oli Barton-Wood (Porridge Radio, Nilufer Yanya, Obongjayer) and mastered by Jason Harvey (PJ Harvey, Dry Cleaning, Aldous Harding), the single is based around frontperson Sophie Harris’ songwriting, rounded off by Juan Brint-Gutierrez on bass, David Denyer of percussion, violin, synth and samples and Adam Blackhurst on Drums.

Speaking on the single, Harris states:

‘Achtung’ was a song that I wrote around the bassline when I didn’t have any other instruments around, which when we developed as a band focused on trying to build a kind of tension and release within the music. Lyrically it’s a bit of a stream of consciousness about memories of childhood. When I was in school I used to live around the corner from a friend who I had a real crush on. His parents were German, and his Dad scared me. We could hear his neighbour playing hymns on the piano if we were in his room with the window open. His dad also used to come in and shout at us if we were doing things we weren’t supposed to, which was often.

With their ferocious live shows already earning an array of comparisons from Sonic Youth, to Black Country, New Road and Kate Bush, the band are set to play a number of shows at The Great Escape next week, with shows at Visions Festival, and dates supporting Ezra Furman coming up.
