Irish intersectional feminist band M(h)aol have released their new single, ‘Snare’. The trio, comprised of Constance Keane (She/Her), Jamie Hyland (She/Her), and Sean Nolan (He/Him), are based in Dublin, Belfast, and London. Known for their energetic live performances and commitment to fostering community, M(h)aol have recently signed to Merge Records following a standout performance at SXSW.

“‘Snare’ is about countless conversations I’ve had since my first drum lesson on my ninth birthday about how bizarre it is that I play that instrument, or how I should be doing it differently,” says lead vocalist and drummer Constance Keane. “The idea of society gendering an inanimate object like a drum kit, when it’s something that brings me so much joy and release, has always frustrated me hugely, and I thought it was time to sing about it.”

M(h)aol’s critically acclaimed debut album, Attachment Styles, released last year, garnered 4-star reviews from The Guardian and Louder and received support from NME, Pitchfork, Brooklyn Vegan, BBC 6 Music, and numerous other outlets. This followed their 2021 EP, Gender Studies.

The band, known for their DIY ethos, initially released both projects on Tulle, an independent women-led record label co-founded by Constance Keane. Jamie Hyland, who handles recording, mixing, mastering, and production, is currently working on M(h)aol’s upcoming 2025 album.

The band have also announced a U.S. tour for next year, with stops in New York, Los Angeles, and Seattle. Additionally, M(h)aol have a series of shows scheduled for the end of this year in London, Wales, Dublin, and Belfast.
