Pioneering electronic musician and producer Mark Pritchard and The Smile/Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke have released their new collaborative single, “Gangsters.” The track is the latest offering from their highly anticipated forthcoming album, ‘Tall Tales,’ scheduled for release on May 9th via Warp Records.
The release of “Gangsters” follows the recent announcement of a special global cinema event on May 8th, where fans will have the opportunity to experience the ‘Tall Tales’ album alongside its accompanying feature film a day before its official release (with potential date variations in some locations).
Previously, two previews from the film were unveiled as music videos accompanying the album’s first two singles, “Back In The Game” and “This Conversation Is Missing Your Voice.” The new single, “Gangsters,” premiered this morning on Lauren Laverne’s BBC Radio 6 Music show and is accompanied by a video providing a third glimpse into the surreal and uncanny visual world crafted by artist Jonathan Zawada, set against Yorke’s distinctive pitch-shifted vocals and Pritchard’s boundary-pushing synth work.
Visual artist Jonathan Zawada is revealed as a crucial “third member” in this collaboration, directing, animating, and editing the immersive cinematic experience. Zawada, known for his genre-bending work with artists like Coachella, Flume, The Avalanches, Royksopp, and Dua Lipa, brings his unique blend of analogue and digital techniques to the project.
Developed over several years in tandem with the music’s evolution, Zawada’s visual experience for ‘Tall Tales’ juxtaposes unsettlingly beautiful natural landscapes with the stark aesthetics of a dystopian world. This groundbreaking production visually interprets the themes explored in Yorke’s lyrics and Pritchard’s timeless compositions, prompting reflection on the potential consequences of unchecked “progress.” Described as a “prophetic cinematic experience” years in the making, ‘Tall Tales’ promises a timely exploration of contemporary concerns. Further information and tickets for the special global cinema event are available at Tall-Tales.info. Attendees will also receive an exclusive zine designed by Zawada, offering deeper insights into the film and album’s concepts.
