Fans of Mark Pritchard, Thom Yorke, and visual artist Jonathan Zawada recently discovered a mysterious Instagram account, Marien Marcel, teasing the visual world of their new album, “Tall Tales,” released last Friday, May 9th. The account revealed sketches and processes of melting down fake eBay art to forge bronze coins, which fans have now begun finding globally.
Today, the trio officially unveils “Tall Tales: The Coins (Forge, Reforge, Forgery),” a short film documenting the coin crafting. This film is the third element of the “Tall Tales” project, following the album and a cinematic premiere on May 8th. Four hundred hand-finished, individually numbered coins are hidden worldwide by accomplices, including author Benjamin Myers and various record stores. These coins serve as clues to the album’s intricate meanings. Lucky finders can register their discovery at https://forger.tall-tales.info/, with 71 coins already located in diverse places like cemeteries and historic landmarks.
“Tall Tales,” the new album from Mark Pritchard and Thom Yorke, is available in various formats. Fans can purchase a standard black vinyl 2LP gatefold edition or a limited special black vinyl 2LP edition that includes a 36-page booklet featuring project images and lyrics, all meticulously designed by Jonathan Zawada. Both a standard CD edition and a limited special CD accompanied by the same 36-page booklet are also available.
