Cross-country new wave indie quintet POMONA has announced their debut EP, marked by the release of their vibrant new single, “Double Yellows” – out now. The Manchester-based band, known for their captivating live energy and “multicolour mood, intense joy-punk,” is set to build on their growing reputation.

“Double Yellows” is a track the band describes as “about the quiet frustration of unacknowledged effort.” It follows their recently released “tracer flare” EP, ‘Saga,’ which dropped in May, offering a brisk, riff-led dive into their distinctive sound. POMONA distinguishes themselves from many post-punk peers by weaving melody through their “bug-eyed buzzsaw indie rock,” a style that has already drawn sold-out crowds to headline shows at YES. To further stoke the fires, the band has announced nine upcoming live dates, kicking off this Saturday, June 28, 2025, at Manchester’s emergent new music institution, The Rat and Pigeon.

Of “Double Yellows,” the band’s lead singer, Joe Boxall, states

At its core, ‘Double Yellows’ is about unreciprocated effort: raising your voice and hearing no sound back, staking your claim and realising no one’s listening. The track paints a picture of someone trapped in a loop of persistence, trying, failing, rebuilding, while carrying the weight of unacknowledged sacrifice. There’s a quiet defiance in that cycle, though. The repeated line “I want to make you proud” isn’t just desperate, it’s resilient.”

Having already shared stages with underground politico-punks Holly Head and supported fast-risers Formal Speeddwear, on top of their own sold-out shows at reputed Manchester venues, POMONA is now taking their electrifying live act on the road. This extensive tour includes a debut appearance in the capital at London’s The Old Blue Last in August, with dates stretching through to October.
