Manchester indie quartet pyncher have unveiled their new single, “The Eight Legged Band,” serving as the title track to their upcoming EP, arriving November 20th via Heist or Hit. The single drops alongside an offbeat, agriculturally themed music video.

Recorded with producer Alex Greaves at The Nave, the track traces its origins back to an old Casio keyboard borrowed from fellow Manchester scene artist TTSSFU. Blending syncopated synth-keys with a grounding bassline and sardonic vocals reminiscent of Gorillaz and Arctic Monkeys, the single explores themes of existential anxiety and growing up.

Laying out the lo-fi origins and recording process behind the single, lead vocalist Sam Blakeley shared:

A couple of years ago I started recording with more drum machines and weird synths. My friend Tasmin (TTSSFU) let me use her Casio that she got for cheap from a charity shop and it became a bit of inspiration for the project. I should probably give it back to her now.

Expanding on the lyrical concept of the project, Blakeley added:

“’The Eight Legged Band’ is about wanting to be someone different and being too afraid to take a leap of faith. There’s a relationship running through it, too, but ultimately, it’s about a wider existential anxiety around growing up, the things you leave unsaid, and whether you’re making the most of the time you’ve got.”

Following their previous EP I Really Mean It This Time, a feature at the BBC 6 Music Festival, and a tour with The Sophs, pyncher will take their new material on the road for a headline UK tour throughout November and December.
