East Coast indie rock duo Joyer, the project of brothers Nick and Shane Sullivan, has shared their new single, “Spell,” from the upcoming album, On The Other End of the Line…. The album is set to release on October 24, 2025, via Julia’s War Recordings. The track, which is accompanied by a new live video, features a chugging guitar riff that soundtracks a heartfelt look at a difficult relationship.
Of the track, Nick Sullivan states,
This was the last song we wrote before getting into the studio and a lot of it came together in the actual recording process, which was really fun since that was how we used to approach writing back when we used to do everything ourselves, I remember Shane pulling that fuzzy lead out of nowhere and the rest of us immediately being like ‘yup, that’s it,’ and that ultimately became sort of the “crux” of the song. It’s become one of my favorites on the album because of the circumstances of how it was made-it’s kind of like a time capsule of our time in Chicago making the record.
The new record was recorded at Palisade Studios in Chicago and produced by Henry Stoehr of Slow Pulp. It was previously announced with the release of the twinkling, twangy single “Cure” and its nostalgic video, which immersed viewers in a hazy, yellow-tinted New York City. Similar to the track, the video shone a light on the small moments in someone’s life and how impactful those moments can be, providing a clear feel for the album’s themes.
A longstanding cult favourite of the East Coast DIY scene, Joyer has long been known for touring with bands like Horse Jumper of Love and releasing records that leaned into a bigger and louder sound. With On The Other End of the Line…, the duo has taken a different approach, intentionally stripping back their style to create songs that are bursting with melody and emotion, signalling a new and captivating chapter for the band.
