23-year-old Jana Diab carries an aura of deep vulnerability and enough bravery to embrace it. The London-based singer/songwriter knows how to use it to bend the reality of music with experimentation that stirs up genre. She just released her debut EP, Season One, through Interscope Records, and it is a must listen. Like anyone in their youth, they take something from wherever they plant their feet. Jana will breathe in a city’s air, and breathe out art.
Spending time in the city of Cairo, Egypt was one of the experiences that inspired Season One. We asked her in what ways does the city of Cairo inspire her work:
Cairo itself doesn’t directly shape my music, but the people, community, and kindness here do. There’s such warmth and generosity in the people I’ve met in Egypt—they give even when they have little, and I find that so beautiful. That sense of community and selflessness is something I carry with me and try to reflect in how I connect with my fans. I want to create a safe, welcoming space for everyone, the way people here have done for me.
Listen to Season One when you’re ready to tap into raw emotions, work through some past heartbreak, or take a walk through your favourite city.
