Great Grandpa, hailed as “indie darlings” by Exclaim, have released “Ladybug,” a playful and vibrant new single and video. This follows their previously acclaimed tracks “Junior,” “Kid,” and “Doom,” all leading up to their highly anticipated album, Patience, Moonbeam, arriving March 28th via Run For Cover Records. “Ladybug,” with its whimsical lyrics and footage from the band’s recording sessions and tours (directed by Dylan Hanwright), offers a glimpse into the album’s exuberant spirit.
The band says of the track,
Every once in a while you find yourself tripping on a beautiful day with a best friend and stumble into the middle of a stranger’s wedding in a park. It’s always these small fickle, fleeting moments we’re seeking that can never be bottled or sustained. What good luck does the ladybug bring? We scream together for those shared seconds of unadulterated joy. We’ll feel ok when it comes back again right? Kid Cudi did it first.
Patience, Moonbeam, the upcoming album from Great Grandpa (Al Menne, Dylan Hanwright, Cam LaFlam, Pat and Carrie Goodwin), is a story of reconnection and growth. After the critically acclaimed Four of Arrows, the band’s new record delves into the power of chosen family, exploring how distance can strengthen bonds. The album’s creation was a truly collective effort, a departure from the more singular songwriting of Four of Arrows.
With an “open door policy” and a focus on “serving the song,” the band crafted a cohesive work that celebrates each member’s unique voice. The result is a testament to their deep musical and personal connection. Great Grandpa’s recent return to live performance, marked by sold-out East Coast shows, precedes their North American tour finale, featuring sold-out shows in Los Angeles and limited tickets available for San Francisco.
