Exeter alt-rock outfit pushbike have announced their forthcoming Little Bastard EP, marking their debut release for tastemaker label The Bird Records (run by Charlie Wayne of Black Country, New Road alongside Mita De). To celebrate the announcement, the band have shared lead single “Pure Hate,” a noisy, unbridled burst of melodic guitar pop paired with exclusive B-side “Captain On The Bridge.”
Running at under ten minutes in total, the brief, high-octane EP was recorded in Bristol alongside producer Jack Ogborne (The New Eves, Naima Bock). Harnessing a sound often described as a cross between Cap’n Jazz and Teenage Fanclub, the four-piece pull from second-wave emo, hardcore, power pop, and C86-era indie.
Operating as a true “band’s band,” pushbike have used Exeter’s legendary venue The Cavern as a central base of operations, helping drive a revitalised local DIY scene alongside a tight-knit collective of artists and fledgling zines.
The Little Bastard EP will receive a physical release via a limited run of cassettes and 10″ vinyl through The Bird Records and the band’s own Spinning Sister imprint. “Pure Hate” and “Captain On The Bridge” are available to stream now.
