Auckland’s indie darlings, Daily J, unveil their latest single, ‘Tastes Like Forever’, today. A captivating track, the band’s third single of 2024, arrives just in time to soundtrack the Southern Hemisphere’s summer. ‘Tastes Like Forever’ is more than just a single; it’s a tantalising glimpse into the band’s future as they prepare to unveil their most ambitious project yet.

Following the success of ‘Happy Slides’ and ‘Sunday Stitches,’ Daily J continue to push their creative boundaries, blending familiar elements with refreshing new sounds. Produced by longtime collaborator Joe Faris, ‘Tastes Like Forever’ weaves a tapestry of vivid imagery, evoking the exhilarating uncertainty of new love.

Frontman Jayden Paul shares the inspiration behind the track:

We wanted to capture the feeling of falling for someone who leaves an indelible mark. It’s about that emotional tug-of-war – the longing, the missed chances, the endless ‘what ifs’ that arise when a new love story begins.

With their captivating live performances, festival appearances, and praise from BBC Radio 1, Rolling Stone, and NME, Daily J are rapidly emerging as a global indie force. Their independently released single, ‘Left Me Like Summer,’ achieved gold status, solidifying their position in the music scene.

Daily J have released a striking music video directed by Dylan Martin to accompany the new single. Shot in stark black and white, the video delves into a central visual theme of their upcoming project: mannequins. These lifeless figures symbolise the unattainable pursuit of perfection. As the video unfolds, the band interacts with the mannequins, dressing, accessorising, and playing with them, highlighting the illusory and often futile nature of this ideal.

As the summer begins in the southern hemisphere, Daily J are gearing up for a busy festival season starting tomorrow at Longline Classic in Gisborne. The full dates are below.

Daily J Tour Dates

  • October 26th – Longline Classic – Gisborne
  • January 1st – Spaced Out Festival – Brisbane
  • January 2nd – Spaced Out Festival – Byron Bay
  • January 4th – Coro Classic – Coromandel

‘Sunday Stitches’ out now

The track follows on from recent single, ‘Sunday Stitches’, the second to be lifted from their highly anticipated third studio album. The new release follows the success of their May single, ‘Happy Slides’, which propelled the band forward after their well-received 2020 release, Venus Ate Mars. Daily J’s recent debut UK tour was a success, drawing large crowds at venues throughout the country and culminating in a stunning performance at All Points East in London’s Victoria Park.

‘Sunday Stitches’ is a dynamic track that captures the familiar yet bittersweet emotions of repetitive Saturday nights and the following melancholy. Once again teaming up with producer Joe Faris, who played a crucial role in moulding the sound of Venus Ate Mars and fan favourite, ‘Left Me Like Summer’, Daily J have infused ‘Sunday Stitches’ with fast-paced rhythms and high-energy instrumentals that will lift listeners spirits.

Vocalist and songwriter Jayden Paul explains the track’s lyrical meaning:

I wrote Sunday Stitches about the emotional tug-of-war between succumbing to temporary relief and living a healthier lifestyle. It underscores themes of self-awareness, introspection, and the courage to confront personal demons.

‘Sunday Stitches’ reaffirms Daily J’s position at the peak of their artistic journey, ready to release their most captivating work yet. The upcoming new album promises to showcase the band’s evolution, highlighting their creative prowess through a blend of emotion, innovation, and irresistible melodies.
