Dutch quintet Honey I’m Home are continuing their meteoric rise with the release of their latest single, ‘Hyperspace Mountain.’ Arriving on the heels of last month’s breakout track ‘Pretty’, which secured the band their first taste of UK national airplay via BBC 6 Music, the new release finds the five-piece at their most confident and high-octane. The track has already carved out its place as a live standout, fueling mosh pits from Hamburg to Austin as the band cements their status as a global force in new wave shoegaze.
Of the track, the band’s vocalist and guitarist, Thom Schotanus, explains,
“Hyperspace Mountain” is about sidelining yourself — and the frustration that comes with it, and the desire for that to change. The track reflects how we see the new wave of shoegaze evolving: an intense guitar-driven track that leans heavily on electronic sounds.
The release follows a whirlwind international run that saw the group conquer stages at SXSW, Reeperbahn, and New York’s New Colossus Festival. Fresh off a European tour supporting Hotline TNT, the band’s time stateside even saw them bonding with scene stalwarts like Winter and Will Anderson. Fans won’t have to wait long to see them back on the road; the quintet is set to join Swedish rockers Girl Scout later this month, with a highly anticipated string of UK dates expected to be announced shortly.
While ‘Hyperspace Mountain’ delivers a “broad-shouldered” and dense sonic landscape, its lyrical core explores the vulnerability of people-pleasing and the habit of sidelining one’s own needs. By blending heavy, guitar-driven textures with experimental electronic flourishes, Honey I’m Home creates a sound that is as massive as it is introspective. It’s a track that captures the frustration of the “back seat” while driving the band firmly into the spotlight.
