Kettering psych-rockers Temples have returned with ‘Jet Stream Heart’, a high-octane single that serves as the mission statement for their newly announced album, BLISS (arriving June 26th via V2 Records). Moving away from the ornate psych-pop of their past, the track is a heavy, hypnotic pulse designed to mimic the physical wall of sound found in a club. By blurring the lines between synths and guitars through custom fuzz pedals and “odd studio gear,” the band has created a track that feels less like a traditional rock song and more like a visceral, immersive experience.

Of the single, the band states,

‘Jet Stream Heart’ explores the feeling of being seduced by music, being pulled into a sonic jet stream and having to give in to the magnetic feeling… This song blurs genres and the line between what’s a synth and what’s a guitar/bass. We’re always striving to make a bold sonic statement.

The single draws heavily on the “melancholic euphoria” of early 2000s electronic music, channelling the energy of acts like Underworld and Faithless. For the band, ‘Jet Stream Heart’ is about the magnetic pull of music that demands total surrender. It marks their most radical sonic departure yet, retaining their signature melodic ear but placing it firmly on the dance floor.
