The Dundalk, Ireland-based quintet Just Mustard has announced their new album, WE WERE JUST HERE, set for release on October 24 via Partisan Records. To mark the announcement, the band has also shared the new single, which is the soaring, late-night title track. The record was produced by Just Mustard and mixed by David Wrench.
The album represents a significant thematic shift for the band. Where their acclaimed 2022 release, Heart Under, explored themes of grief and longing, the songs on WE WERE JUST HERE draw from a wider spectrum of human emotion. The new tracks follow characters searching for ecstasy, holding onto love, and grasping for the rush of feeling alive.
While Just Mustard’s signature elements—warped guitars, twisted sound design, and cavernous low ends—are still a core part of their identity, the new album channels them into a warmer and more anthemic path. This is exemplified on the title track, where Katie Ball’s echoing vocals and jagged guitars form a euphoric, communal sound inspired by club spaces and the joy of physical connection.
The announcement follows the band’s rapid rise to prominence. Following the critical acclaim for Heart Under, the band went on a world tour and was handpicked by Robert Smith to support The Cure. They have also performed with Depeche Mode and Fontaines D.C., solidifying their reputation as a formidable and respected force in contemporary music.
