The genre-bending duo Witch Post has announced their return today by confirming they have signed with Partisan Records, joining a roster that includes Geese, Blondshell, and PJ Harvey. To mark the news, members Alaska Reid and Dylan Fraser have immediately released their hypnotic new single, “Changeling,” which is the first material to follow their breakout debut EP, Beast, released earlier this year.

“Changeling” fully embraces Witch Post’s expansive sound: it is built on massive power chords, crashing drums, and an explosive chorus that evokes the arena-rock atmosphere of the ’90s. Yet, true to their unique style, the duo twists this familiar framework into something unsettlingly seductive and emotionally raw, transforming the grunge-rock energy with a spectral touch. The duo, who coincidentally hail from towns sharing the same name in Montana and Scotland, formed through a serendipitous meeting of minds, blending Reid’s dark American indie leanings with Fraser’s pop sensibilities, which are intentionally warped “by a house of mirrors.”

Of the single, the band note,

We met a changeling that inspired this song. We didn’t realise it ’till a year later…

Once knew a changeling Julie was her name
Foxglove & roses painted tears on her face
I knew she was restless, I knew she had pain
Then she tried to consume me we were never the same

The new track builds upon the momentum generated by early singles like “Chill Out” and “Rust,” which quickly established Witch Post as one of the buzziest emerging acts in the industry. Further underlining their reputation for shapeshifting, the duo recently shared acoustic reimaginings of Beast tracks “Dreaming” and “The Wolf.” Witch Post is scheduled to headline a short run of UK and European dates this fall.
