Crewe-based four-piece band UNIVERSITY have released their new single, ‘Massive Twenty One Pilots Tattoo,’ via Transgressive Records.

The track, produced by the band in collaboration with Kwes Darko (Slowthai, Overmono) and Andrea Cozzaglio (Inhaler, Beabadoobee), originated from a playful concept: “What would be the worst tattoo in the world?“. Musically, the single blends elements of hardcore and punk rock, juxtaposing moments of melodic clarity with intense, incendiary passages.

UNIVERSITY incorporate sardonic humor into their musical approach. Following their signing to Transgressive Records, the band has opted to counterbalance the increased formality of their operations by pushing their music towards more extreme and absurdist territories.

The band’s 2023 debut EP, Title Track, featuring tracks such as King Size Slim, Notre Dame Made Out Of Flesh, and Egypt Tune, garnered critical acclaim for its high-energy and explosive sound. Dork magazine described the EP as “a riotous earworm from noise punk’s most promising new band,” while NME praised it as “an explosion of energy unlike anything you’ve heard this year.”
