The iconic duo Sparks, consisting of brothers Ron and Russell Mael, have released the official music video for their new single, “Porcupine.” The video, which was directed by Fred Rowson, stars musician and songwriter Self Esteem. The single is the lead track from the band’s first-ever EP, MADDER!, a four-song companion piece set to release on October 3rd.
The EP was recorded in response to the “phenomenal reaction” to their 28th studio album, MAD!, which gave them a career-best UK chart position. The band shared that they didn’t want the momentum to end, so they made a “hasty but intense retreat to the studio” to record the EP for everyone who “isn’t yet MAD! enough.”
The single “Porcupine” is a song about a character’s fascination with a person who has a prickly personality. The track features an infectious organ riff that gives way to heavy guitars in the choruses. The video’s release coincides with the North American leg of their MAD! Tour, bringing the new music to fans worldwide.
