SOFIA ISELLA Unleashes Post-Punk Snarl on Commanding New Single ‘Above the Neck’

Following a breakout year filled with sold-out international shows and over 150 million streams worldwide, 20-year-old SOFIA ISELLA has cemented her position as one of the UK’s most formidable new voices with the release of her commanding new single, “Above the Neck.” The track, which she wrote and produced herself with additional input from Mr Hudson, pushes further into spoken word and post-punk territory, utilising a soundscape of striking drums and distorted bass to deliver its confrontational message.

“Above the Neck” is an eruption of artful rage and a bold study of power, specifically tackling the fetishisation of youth and the way femininity is often contorted into something to be consumed. Isella’s signature style, a fusion of discipline and raw expression, is deeply informed by her background as a classically trained violinist and poet, drawing lyrical inspiration from the lineage of righteous women like Sylvia Plath and Anne Sexton, as well as the ’90s grrrl-punk scene (PJ Harvey, Courtney Love). The new single arrives as the artist continues her massive momentum, which recently included her You’ll Understand More, Dick North American headline tour and the major announcement that she will be supporting Florence + The Machine at iconic venues including Madison Square Garden and Barclays Center.
