Sex Mask Announce New EP Body Broker and Share Ferocious Lead Single “Cold”

Melbourne post-punk trio Sex Mask have announced their new EP Body Broker, set for release on November 26, alongside its blistering lead single, “Cold.” The new record follows the group’s acclaimed double A-side “Circe” / “How To Be Cool At Parties” and cements their reputation as one of Australia’s most exciting emerging acts. The band have quickly built a cult following with their idiosyncratic blend of absurdist punk, new wave, and industrial rock.

Their latest single, “Cold,” is a high-voltage rush of jagged guitars, volatile vocals, and restless rhythm — an unsettling yet hypnotic cut that perfectly sets the tone for the EP’s shadowy world. Reflecting on its origins, Wry Gray explained,

“‘Cold’ was written several years ago, somewhere near the base of Mt Fuji. I was very unwell, bedridden, and all the doctors were under the belief my state was induced by the influence of a rare neurotoxin I had picked up from eating fresh frogs and crabs in stormwater drains all over Japan’s suburban tunnel systems. I was filling glass jars with may beetles, ageing them until they became like preserves.”

Body Broker pushes Sex Mask’s sound further into the surreal and the cinematic, weaving together industrial beats, serrated guitars, and anthemic, unrestrained choruses. The EP also features a guest appearance from Noah Learmonth of rising Melbourne peers Radio Free Alice, with whom the band will tour later this autumn.
