South Wales newcomers MORN have released their debut single, ‘Modern Man,’ today via Speedy Wunderground as part of their Speedy Single Series. Since relocating to London in 2024, the band has quickly made a name for themselves in the city’s DIY underground, selling out headline shows, including a “feral, full-throttle” performance at The Windmill Brixton, and earning a spot on Glastonbury’s Emerging Talent longlist.
Comprised of two sets of siblings from the farmlands of Monmouth, MORN creates a compelling sound they describe as “doom over beautiful chords.” ‘Modern Man’ announces their arrival with breathless, runaway-train chaoticism, weaving spiky guitar passages and rumbling fuzz with an urgent intensity. The track features a nihilistic gang vocal of “Life is sh*t when you’re all alone, but it’s fine,” spiraling into an unhinged closing chorus of ‘La la la’s, showcasing MORN’s ability to wrestle bedlam into something cathartic. This single is a thrilling introduction to a band just getting started.
Vocalist and guitarist Oliver Riba states,
Modern Man came from the wild urgency of our lives. Born from teenage riffs, shaped by laughter, anger, and fear. It’s a desperate sprint through the loneliness and madness of routine, a strange reflection on the dream of escape. It felt right that it was all captured live, and Dan Carey really brought it to life with a touch of his magic. Welcome to the world of MORN.
‘Modern Man’ will be available as a limited edition 7″ single on 12th June, including a dub remix B side by Dan Carey, ‘Dan Carey’s Modern Dub’.
