Militarie Gun has announced their highly anticipated new album, God Save The Gun, which is set to arrive on October 17th via Loma Vista Recordings. To mark the announcement, the band has released the lead single, “B A D I D E A,” which premiered on Apple Music’s New Music Daily Radio with frontman Ian Shelton as a guest. Shelton also took on directorial duties for the single’s music video.
Of the single, and its music video, Shelton shares,
I wanted to make a video that was a celebration of vices, a new iteration of yourself looking back at a moment you made a mistake while never truly reflecting. This was the most technically challenging video we’ve ever done, and it only fits a song spelling out the words ‘bad idea.’
The new album continues the band’s exploration of emotional struggles, but with a profound thematic shift from their 2023 debut, Life Under The Gun. While that album centred on observing cycles of hurt and addiction from a distance, God Save The Gun places Shelton directly at the heart of the narrative as the protagonist.
This change in perspective wasn’t a conscious decision at first; it wasn’t until the band was scheduled to enter the studio that Shelton realised he was the one who needed to hear the album’s powerful message for himself.
