Birmingham newcomers GANS continue to build anticipation for their debut album with the release of the new single, “NIGHTWALKING.” Their first album, GOOD FOR THE SOUL, is set to arrive on September 19th via Peter Doherty’s Strap Originals label. Produced by the acclaimed Ross Orton, the new track follows the success of recent singles “I THINK I LIKE YOU” and “IT’S JUST LIFE,” both of which landed on the BBC 6 Music playlist.

As “borderless noise-makers” with a core of intensity, GANS continue to surprise with “NIGHTWALKING.” The single takes a sharp turn from the heated post-punk and frantic electronics of their previous work, instead settling into a dusky, after-hours atmosphere. This blend of sounds is rooted in their upbringing in working-class areas of the Black Country, where their parents worked in local factories and mills. Their music reflects this background, merging uneasy realism with a horizon-chasing escapism.

Of the single, the band’s vocalist and drummer, Euan Woodman, expands,

‘NIGHTWALKING’ addresses that space between love, desire and lust. Love does not always have to be clean and pure – it’s not that simple and one-dimensional. It can be dark and cruel. It can be late night f. Simple, selfish acts of love. We tried to write our version of a soul track with a dark twist and we deliberately made the recording warm and swing with brass sections from our pals in Ibibio Sound Machine. It was kinda like a Grand Theft Auto late night cruise with Marvin Gaye driving through the streets of Digbeth…. that was kinda the vibe we had in mind.

In their upcoming debut album, Good for the Soul, the band explores themes of acceptance, self-destruction, and body image. Influenced by their shared passion for painting, literature, and poetry, GANS represents the convergence of these ideas, brought to life by the collaborative efforts of songwriters Euan Woodman (drums, vocals) and Thomas Rhodes (bass, vocals).
