Copenhagen-based hypergaze outfit 100%WET have released their new single, “Indigo,” via Crunchy Frog Recordings. Alongside the track’s arrival, the group have officially confirmed that long-time collaborator Sanna Heinstedt (ASA Eir) has joined the band as a full and permanent member alongside founders Casper Munns and Jakob.
First featured on the band’s early single “Ether,” Heinstedt has been a fixture of 100%WET’s live shows and studio sessions over the past year. “Indigo” puts her vocal chemistry with Casper Munns front and centre, pairing layered, reverb-soaked guitars and trip-hop-infused beats with subtle Eastern tonal influences.
The release also comes following a period of personal recovery for the band, after Munns was hospitalised last year with a life-threatening illness that placed him in an induced coma and temporarily halted their touring schedule.
Reflecting on the emotional trajectory of “Indigo,” Casper Munns shared:
I’ll spare the deeper meaning, but ‘Indigo’ reminds me of how time can change perspective and create new beauty. When I wrote it, the song came from a dark place – a needy, desperate longing that needed to be forced out. As time has passed, I’ve started to see it more as a love song, a celebration of life. It’s a good reminder that songs can shift. Hearing it again in a different state of mind has completely changed how it feels to me, and I like that it can be left open for the listener to bring their own meaning to it.
Addressing Heinstedt’s official addition to the lineup, Munns and Jakob added:
“She’s been a part of the band officially for quite a while – we’ve hardly played a show without her for over a year now, so it’s almost old news for us. It’s really nice to finally get it out there and have her recognised as a full member. We started out collaborating with different singers, but organically her voice just started to fit – her tone and the guitars found each other naturally.”
Sanna has been a huge creative force in the process of creating the upcoming sound – our primary partner-in-crime in the studio and live over the last few years, so it’s a natural step for her to be a bona fide member of the band. We’re stoked to work with such a powerful voice as Sanna’s and didn’t feel like it wouldn’t be true to the band’s actual process to remain a duo.
