After taking an extended break, Chvrches is finally back with a new single He said She Said. The Scottish indie-pop band’s newly released track is their first since 2019 when they recorded Death Stranding for a Hideo Kojima game of the same name. Their last album was Love Is Dead in 2018. In true COVID-19 fashion, the band collaborated over Zoom to record their new single that draws from inspirations like Grammy-award winner Billie Eilish.
The song itself dives into the challenges women face in society, specifically focusing on the dreaded man-splaining. Frontwoman Lauren Mayberry said in a statement:
‘He Said She Said’ is my way of reckoning with things I’ve accepted that I know I shouldn’t have. All the verse lines are tongue-in-cheek or paraphrased versions of things that have actually been said to me by men in my life. Being a woman is fucking exhausting and it felt better to scream it into a pop song than scream it into the void.
