Canada’s Arkells today reveal another new track titled Strong. The ballad marks the latest track to be lifted from their highly anticipated forthcoming new album Blink Once, due to arrive on September 22nd. Probably one of their most personal songs to date, Strong deals with the passing of a dear friend of frontman Max Kerman. Listen below.

Speaking about the meaning behind Strong, Kerman commented:

“‘Strong’ is about my friend Dr. Barbara Tatham. We went to college together, and she was about as spectacular as they come. She was a doctor who advocated for the needy. She loved music and dancing. A picture of grace and kindness. The song was written while she was sick with cancer, and it’s about the little moments of joy and relief where you can briefly leave behind an impossible situation. It’s also an ode to the bonds and strength of the love she felt from the family, partner, and community of people that knew her. We miss her, and we’ll get to think of her every time we sing this song.

Recorded in LA and completed in Toronto, Blink Once is their sixth studio album and follows on from last year’s Campfire Chords, a collection of Arkells classics re-imagined acoustically. Besides Strong, the new album also includes recent singles Swing Swing Swing , One Thing I Know as well as the hit single You Can Get It featuring K.Flay, All Roads and Years In The Making.

Returning to the stage after almost two years, the band played a string of sold out headline shows at the Budweiser Stage in Toronto this August. More dates will hopefully be announced shortly

Blink Once is arrives on September 22nd on physical and digital formats.
