Montreal’s Ada Lea, the artistic moniker of musician Alexandra Levy, today releases “midnight magic” the third single from her upcoming album, when i paint my masterpiece. The highly anticipated album is slated for release on August 8th via Saddle Creek. The track draws inspiration from surrealist artists such as Leonora Carrington, James Ensor, Charlotte Salomon, and Maruja Mallo, setting a distinctly uncanny tone.
The accompanying video, a collaboration with visual artist Clarice Hana, brings Ada Lea’s painted vision to life. It features a fantastical giant creature woman that births a candlestick holder, a cloud-sized egg, a piano, an enormous tube of paint and, strikingly, finally, she gives birth to Ada Lea. The bizarre scene is complete with a four-eyed OBGYN using three-foot scissors to cut the cord, a truly memorable and surreal visual experience.
Levy’s UK tour will precede an extensive string of North American dates kicking off in September, including highly anticipated showcases for The Line Of Best Fit in London and Rough Trade in Bristol.
