Woodstock-born punk firebrands The Bobby Lees have officially announced their fourth studio album, New Self, set for release on June 12th via Epitaph Records. Marking their first full-length since signing with the legendary label last autumn, the record serves as a defiant return for the trio after a period of extreme burnout and financial instability that nearly ended the band in 2023. To celebrate the announcement, the group has shared the raucous and bittersweet title track, a desert-hazed confession, inspired by late-90s Hip Hop and Nu Metal.
Of the single, guitarist & vocalist Sam Quartin states,
“This song feels like a diary entry that I’m letting strangers read, it’s kinda weird to share – but fuck it. We were listening to late 90’s Hip Hop and Nu Metal when we wrote it. We told Dave Sardy, who produced the track, that sound was our goal, that kinda feel.”
The road to New Self was paved by an unexpected intervention from Hollywood actor Jason Momoa, who stepped in to fund the record after hearing about the band’s decision to go on indefinite hiatus due to the crushing economic pressures of the industry. This support allowed the band, Quartin, drummer Macky Bowman, and bassist Kendall Wind, to head to Los Angeles and work with acclaimed producers Dave Sardy and Alex Pasco. The result is a sound that retains their signature furnace-blast energy while embracing a more expansive, confident landscape that reflects their growth from garage-punk stalwarts to refined, secure-in-their-skin rock leaders.
