Manchester’s oddball garage-rock quartet pyncher have announced their debut EP, Every Town Needs A Stranger, set for release on October 10th via crackedankles. To mark the announcement, the band has shared the EP’s lead single, “Steely Dan,” a guttural and playful track that serves as a recharged take on one of their earliest live favourites. The original version was forcibly taken from streaming, and the new track’s 7″ vinyl run sold out in under an hour.

Speaking of the track, the band states,

This song dates back to when we first started as a band, and it’s inspired by a short horror story written by our drummer, Jack Rainbow. As for the music, we’d all been on a night out and Sam woke up with this idea for a riff. We lived in a four bed house together, so it was just a matter of Sam knocking on each of our doors and working each part out, until we put the song together in our living room.

The news comes on the heels of a busy year for the band, who have been building a reputation for their frantic live shows. Having recently supported artists like The Wytches, English Teacher, and Maruja, pyncher will embark on their own headline tour in November. With radio support from BBC Radio 6 Music and Radio X, as well as praise from tastemakers like DIY and Rough Trade, the band’s profile is set to continue rising.
