Following up on their summer single “Knock Down, Drag Out,” The Wild Things have announced the second half of their sonic love story with the release of a new single, “I Can’t Wait,” which arrives on August 14th. While the previous track detailed a scorching tale of lust and love, the new song takes a sharp turn, recounting the bitter and defiant end of the affair.
From the very first moments of the track, vocalist Sydney Rae White makes her feelings clear, declaring, “Hey son of a bitch, first of all, go to hell.” The song is a self-assured rock anthem that takes aim at arrogant and game-playing exes, bringing their summer fling to an abrupt close over catchy instrumentals.
Of the track, White explains,
“I Can’t Wait” is part two of our love affair story, happening inside New Orleans, The gap between the singles is the realtime breakdown of our character’s relationship, ending in a vitriolic yet cathartic rock song. This song is a real shift for us in some really exciting ways. If “Knock Down, Drag Out” is a nod to our past, “I Can’t Wait” is a window into our future…
The single is accompanied by a music video directed by Rob Kendrick, which sees the band celebrating the relief of a breakup in glorious technicolour. The band has also launched an interactive voicemail system called “The Black Heart” where fans can leave messages to their exes in their own search for catharsis.
