Julie Odell Returns with Poignant New Single ‘Orioles Eating Oranges’

Julie Odell today unveils her latest single, “Orioles Eating Oranges,” released via New York’s Frenchkiss label. This new track marks Odell’s first release since her critically acclaimed 2022 debut album, Autumn Eve. “Orioles Eating Oranges” gracefully resumes the narrative themes found on Autumn Eve, three years later, offering a tender and wistful meditation on observing a happy, functioning family unit.

Of the track, Odell states,

I had gone with my daughter to Indiana to visit my sister and her family right before the start of the world shutting down and ended up staying for several months. It was the first time I had seen kids freely playing from sun up to sundown since I was a kid myself.

Odell’s upbringing was deeply immersed in the arts; her mother is a painter, and her father a potter. She spent much of her childhood travelling with them to art festivals and craft fairs, living out of a van for months as they pursued their livelihood. Surrounded by artists and their creations throughout her life, it was a natural progression for Odell to eventually embark on her own artistic path. “Orioles Eating Oranges” signifies a fresh chapter for Odell, who, despite a period of public quiet, has been diligently writing and refining her craft. Fans can anticipate more new music from her in the near future.
