Today, Leeds-based Van Houten have released their dreamy new single, Better Than This, through Come Play With Me. Soaring guitar riffs pair gorgeously with soft synth notes and reflective lyrics to create a ‘mirror’ in the face of uncertainty and anxieties around what the future holds. Listen below.

Van Houten were selected for the release by a panel of judges, including Radio 1’s Phil Taggart and Adele Slater (agent to Dream Wife and Liam Gallagher).

Speaking about the track, lead singer Louis states:

The song is about searching and working for a better life, and is hopeful in this respect, it’s about how easy it can be for life to pass you by

He believes that this is a ‘relatable, universal idea, as most people have the instinct to seek something better.’

Since recording their self-titled debut album alongside Martin Smith (Gomez, Bombay Bicycle Club and Richard Hawley), the band gathered in Louis’ bedroom, helping to produce the intimate feeling Better Than This holds.

Van Houten were scheduled to play this years Great Escape festival, they have a rescheduled tour across France in April and are set to perform at a rescheduled Live at Leeds. Having received support from the likes of Clash and Earmilk, Van Houten are certainly a band to keep your eye on.
