Despite having been on our radar for over a decade and hotly hyped by the likes of Kerrang and Zane Lowe, Twin Atlantic have never hit the same euphoric heights as contemporaries such as Biffy Clyro. Consistently successful commercially yet just as easily forgotten from radio schedules the band has always been tantalisingly close to becoming a festival headliner.

Their fifth album Power could – should be the break this band deserves. Solely recorded at their Glasgow studio the trio have gifted us a short and punchy LP which is disgustingly catchy.

Moving away from their classic sound, Power pulls synth-pop inspiration from LCD Soundsystem and Depeche Mode. Opening track Oh! Euphoria! Reveals this straight away giving a sleek and sexy introduction before launching into Barcelona which I’ve quite honestly been listening to on repeat since it’s release in December.

Capturing their classic sound Barcelona showcases frontman Sam Mctrusty’s ability to stylishly weave clever lyrics around an anthemic chorus. Other stand out moments are the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club-esque baselines rumbling through lead single Novocaine and I Feel It Too,the sheer synth thrills emanating from Ultraviolet Truth and album closer Messiah is a slow-build masterpiece.

This is a multiple listen album, and it gets better every time. You might not get Power on the first listen, you might utter the words don’t like it but you must not put it down. Give it the second listen it deserves and lose yourself in the joy of that dirty synth-rock sound.
