Northern crooners The Lathums are fast gaining a reputation within the Indie List for capturing a sound not made for decades. With sepia tinged music videos, questionable trouser choices and timeless vocals you could be forgiven for thinking the quartet had fallen through a time warp from the 1980’s.
Their latest single I See Your Ghost see’s the boys replacing their established, mournful sound in place of a fast-paced ska beat. Having previously occupied a middle ground firmly between the iconic sounds of The Smiths and The Jam, here we see a more frantic noise presented by the band which disappointingly falls short of the full horn section normally associated with ska.
Already famed for their mega sing-along sets, you know this song will be a raucous one when the four-piece finally hit the stage again. One can’t help but wonder if their dedicated fans are going to be able to master all of the lyrics with quite the same panache.
Set to head out on the road again in 2021, their biggest tour to date takes in nights at London’s Electric Ballroom and Manchesters 02 Ritz (tickets here). Unsurprisingly for a band who reached the top of the UK Vinyl Chart earlier this year, the tickets are selling out fast.
For those unable to get a ticket, rumour has it there will be more exciting announcements for the Lathums before October finishes.
