The Carnabys are aptly named after one of London’s hippest streets. The South West London five piece will release their new single Scars and Safety Pins on June 10th. The single is also the second track to be revealed from their new album Too Much, Never Enough (out August 19th).
The Carnabys burst onto the industry stage when they beat over 12,000 global artists to win Hard Rock Rising 2013 and played at Hard Rock Calling festival alongside Kasabian and Bruce Springsteen. This achievement may be a little misleading as The Carnabys are a pop rock band rather than a hard rock act.
Scars and Safety Pins is quite a step up from previous single Peaches and Bleach. The band describe it as is a study of self harm; trying to hide one’s fragility but at the same time calling for help and all of that effect on a relationship. Musically, it is rawer than their previous outing and even reminds me of some of Arctic Monkey’s earlier work.
